Thursday, November 23, 2023 - 10:30

RIBA at 66 Portland Place hosted a special event on the morning of Tuesday 21st November to launch the Fair Pay Charter. The Charter has been conceived by Sheikh Aliur Rahman (OBE), Group Chairman of London Tea Exchange, supported by EP, and is designed to improve the living conditions and pay for all those who work on tea plantations around the world.

With support from the United Nations and the London Mayor, Sheikh Aliur Rahman and EP hope the Fair Pay Charter will help London become the first fair pay City in the world, creating a better future for 120 million people globally with hospitality at the centre.

Sheikh Aliur Rahman shared his vision and hopes for the Charter during the morning event, while a senior speaker from the United Nations also addressed the audience. Several senior political figures attended and offered their thoughts on the global issue.

The morning launch event took place in RIBA 66 Portland Place’s principal entertaining space, the Florence Hall. As well as hearing from key figures on proposals and steps forward in the drive to improve living conditions and pay, guests were able to sample some of the best teas in the world in beautiful Art Deco surroundings.
